Ann E. (Barbour) Sundelin

Ann Elizabeth Sundelin, 82, of Fry Pond Road, West Greenwich, RI, died peacefully on February 12, 2017 at Kent Hospital, in Warwick, RI. Born on April 29, 1934, she was the wife of the late Jorma Sundelin and the daughter of the late Clifton and Irene (Beattie) Barbour. Ann was a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger George Soule and also of Roger Williams. She was a member of a lace manufacturing family. She lived in Coventry, RI most of her life and most recently in West Greenwich, RI.

Ann was a graduate of Coventry High School and studied business at Bryant College. She was a secretary for Coventry Public Schools and later the office manager at Leavers Lace in West Greenwich, RI. She worked as a receptionist at Kent Hospital for twenty-four years. Ann was a founding member of the Hopkins Hill Fire Station Ladies Auxiliary and she had been a member of Washington United Methodist Church. She was active at the Coventry Senior Center.

Ann was passionate about her children, family and home. She was a talented artist and often gave paintings as gifts. She enjoyed baking, developing her own recipes and cake decorating. Ann was known for her fabulous apple pie, always served with vanilla ice cream. She kept beautiful gardens around her home and she had a special fondness for white flowers. Ann’s wonderful smile could light up a room and her quick wit brought smiles to others.

Ann is survived by three children; Kathleen A. Swann and her husband Brian, Clifton M. Sundelin and his fiancee Sandra Baker and John J. Sundelin and his wife Alicia, two sisters; Dorothy Sundelin and Susan Dunbar, five grandchildren; Elizabeth, Celia, Edward, Geoffrey and Anna and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother; Harry Barbour.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours are Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial will be in the Knotty Oak Cemetery, Coventry, RI.
