Edward John Gazzerro

Edward “Eddie” John Gazzerro, 89, of Wakefield Street, West Warwick, RI, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, in Providence, RI. He was the son of the late Vincent J. and Guila (DiSalvo) Gazzerro.

Mr. Gazzerro graduated from West Warwick High School in West Warwick, RI. He was in the Army Special Services Forces, Company 1, 8th Battalion, 2nd Regiment, Ship – USS General Freeman. He was injured and sent to 382nd (STA) hospital on August 13, 1947 at Fort Lawton, Washington, and was honorable discharged. His decorations of honor were: World War II Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Mr. Gazzerro was a truck driver for Cardi Corporation for many years. He also worked as an Honorary Deputy Sheriff of Kent County and also for Gazzerro’s Masons.

He loved the beaches, casinos, and horses. He vacationed in Lake George yearly and was a caring, devoted, loyal person who was loved by everyone.

He is survived by a sister; Lena Cianca of Dedham, Massachusetts, nieces: Carolyn Zinno and DeAnna Peloquin, and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son; Edward John Gazzerro, Jr., his brothers; Anthony (Tony), Louis, and Vincent (Bobby) Gazzerro, and sisters; Lucy DeRensis, Amelia Kunsis, and Julia Schmidt.

A funeral home service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Gorton Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. A calling hour will be held one hour prior, from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will be in the St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
