Floyd E. Johnson, 94, of Town Farm Road, Coventry, RI, passed away in peace and comfort at home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Born in Farmington Falls, ME, he was the husband of the late Theresa (Durocher) Johnson and the son of the late Jeremiah and Nellie M. (Porter) Johnson.

Floyd was a company clerk for US Army Reserves, 443rd Civil Affairs Unit, Warwick, RI for twenty-five years until retiring in 1973. Floyd served in the US Army 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion from May of 1939 until his Honorable Discharge in July of 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart on January 27, 1945 and the Bronze Star Feb. 18, 1945. He was also issued a citation for Heroic Achievement in connection with military operations in Luxembourg on January 5th, 1945. The list of his actions goes on!

Floyd's passion was being a motorcycle mechanic. He was well known and respected for his craft in the Pawtuxet Valley area for over 25 years. All of the kids in town could count on "Mr. Johnson" to have the right spark plug for their CT70 on a Sunday morning and could also count on getting a lecture for using the wrong gasoline in their minibikes! Cycle riders from near and far came to him to have their bikes serviced by Mr. Johnson.

He was a US Army Veteran of WWII receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals. He was a member of the Coventry Senior Center and enjoyed hunting and fishing. As a member of the Coventry Senior Center he became quite adept at playing pool and enjoyed many mornings at the center playing with friends.

He is survived by four children; Denise Gauvin, William D. Johnson, Amy R. Horsch and Naomi L. Bentley, a brother; Ronald Johnson, three sisters; Edna Kiem, Carolyn Gendron and Shirley Henderson, sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter; Nancy E. Costa.
