Francis G. Callahan

Francis G. Callahan, 89, of West Warwick, RI, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Westerly Health Center, Westerly, RI, after a long illness. Born in Providence, RI, he was the husband of Carolyn J. (Matthews) Callahan. They were married for forty-eight years. He was the son of the late John W. and Alice E. (Garvey) Callahan.

Francis was the tax assessor of Stonington, CT, for twenty-five years. He was also a moderator and instructor at the Connecticut Assessors Workshop at the University of Connecticut, Storrs CT.

He was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sisters in law; Virginia Vassett and Carmella Callahan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother; John Callahan and three sisters; Regina Callahan, Dorothy Smith and Marjorie McCrave.

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018  from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI, followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 am.  Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
