Normand G. Marchand Sr. (Det. PPD, Ret.), 75, of Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 28, 1944 in Woonsocket, RI, he was the husband of Suzanne M. (DesRoches) Marchand. They were married for twenty-eight years. He was the son of the late Paul and Germaine (LaFeirre) Marchand.
Normand was a police officer and detective for twenty years for the Providence Police Department, Providence, RI, until retiring in 1984. He also worked for the State of RI as a child protective investigator for twenty years. Normand was a US Military Air Force Veteran serving in Vietnam. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice from RI College and was a member of Pasco Serenchia Post #2, West Warwick, RI.
Besides his wife he is survived by four children; Marie Gaspar and her husband Joseph, Dawn Cook and her husband Dean II, Monique Messier and her husband Michael Jr. and Normand M. Marchand Jr. and his partner Melissa, seven grandchildren; Michaela, Danielle, Deanna, Dylan, Corey, Caleb and Juliana. He was predeceased by two brothers; Paul Marchand and Gerald Marchand, a sister; Pauline Allard and a granddaughter; Margaret June.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI, followed by US Military Honors. Calling hours will be held prior from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will be private.
