Roland J. Ricard

Roland J. Ricard, 87 of Griswold, Ct. died peacefully on September 13, 2016 with family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Stella M. "Chris" (Banas) Ricard in August, 2014 after 63 years of marriage. He was born in Waterbury, Ct. on January 19, 1929 to Alide and Alma (Miller) Ricard. He is survived by two sons, Paul Ricard and his wife Diane of Voluntown, Ct., Peter Ricard and his wife Ann of Thompson, Ct., and one daughter, Renee Jowett, with whom he resided in Griswold, Ct. Roland is also suvived by one brother, Yvon Ricard and his wife Doris, six grandchildren, Nathan Lazourak, Richard Ricard, Jeniffer Lazourak, Jeanette Giattino, Krystal Breault, Chelsea Tucker, and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Alide and Alma, brothers Armand, Marcel (Father Joe), Jean-Louis, Robert, and one sister, Yolande.

Roland served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1949 and was a member of the American Legion.

He worked many years at Electric Boat in Groton, Ct. as a welder and instructor. He enjoyed Red Sox baseball, bowling, horseshoes, and motorcycles. Roland was a Jack of many trades having built his own home on Pachaug Pond where he and Chris raised their family of five.

A memorial gathering is planned for October 9th, 12 noon, at 759 Ekonk Hill Rd.,Voluntown, Ct.
