Myrtle B. Bell, 92, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the home of her granddaughter in Warwick, RI. Born on April 28, 1930, in Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. Sr. and Lily (Walton) Ellis. Mrytle was a lifelong resident of Coventry, RI.
Myrtle was a branch manager for Old Colony Bank for twenty-five years until retiring in 1982. Myrtle paved the way for women’s opportunities in banking in the State of Rhode Island. In 1980 she and two other Old Colony women bankers were selected Woman of the Year by the YMCA. Myrtle fought the battle with Non-Hodgkins's Lymphoma cancer for twenty-eight years. Myrtle was a talented seamstress and during Covid made many handmade masks for the community she lived in.
Myrtle is survived by her daughters, a brother; Ronald Ellis, granddaughters, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren; Clayton and Elena Patricia. She is survived by her oldest granddaughter Tracie Martin Johnson who lovingly cared for her over the last several years. She was predeceased by three brothers; Arthur Ellis, John Ellis, Robert Ellis and seven sisters; Carolyn Rice, Marion Gordon, Evelyn Burdon, Harriet Burns, Ethel Hart, Florence Richmond and Irene Spencer.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 6:00 pm in the Gorton – Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held prior from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Burial will be private.
