Richard Fontaine Obituary

Richard J. Fontaine, 81, of Putnam Pike, Smithfield, RI, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Morgan Health Center, Johnston, RI. Born on February 9, 1939 in West Warwick, RI he was the husband of Sheila J. (Clarke) and the son of the late Joseph F. and Gertrude A. (Blanchard) Fontaine.

Richard was a Certified Public Accountant serving many small businesses in RI for nearly fifty years and a Professor at Bryant College, Smithfield, RI, for twenty-nine years before retiring in 1995.

He graduated from LaSalle Academy and earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island and his Master of Business and Master of Taxation degrees from Bryant College. Richard was a United States Army veteran with a rank of 1st Lieutenant, beginning with ROTC and then serving from 1961 - 1963 in the quartermaster corp based in Fort Lee, VA.

Besides his wife, Sheila, he is survived by a son; Richard Fontaine, a daughter; Melissa Fontaine both of Smithfield, RI and three beloved grandchildren; Arianna, Nolan and Ethan, two brothers; Philippe Fontaine, Emile Fontaine, two sisters; Therese Petrangelo, Marie Fontaine. He was predeceased by a sister; Vivianne Donovan.

Richard’s services will be private.
