Melvin Baker Obituary

Melvin “Mel” Baker, 80, of West Greenwich, RI passed away at home on Wednesday, February 13, 2018. He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years Roberta Baker, his children, Robert Baker of Wayland MA, Dennis Baker of Warwick, RI and Shelly Scarsella of Coventry RI. Mel was deeply devoted to his family and also leaves behind six grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Mel, a lifelong worker, retired from the State of Rhode Island Airports and until recently worked a second career as a project manager for Wyle Laboratories. For many years, he was the volunteer Fire Chief for Hianloland Fire Department in West Greenwich.

Mel was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a tinkerer, competitive Chinese checker player, puzzle maker, mentor and problem solver. Generous and kind, Mel was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends and never failed to make them smile with his jokes and stories. He will be deeply missed by many.
