Thomas Beattie

October 22, 1919 ~ December 28, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old


Thomas Beattie passed away peacefully on Thursday December 28,2017, at the Greenwood Center in Warwick, RI. He was born to the late Katherine(McMahon) and Thomas Beattie in Astoria , Long Island on October 22,1919. Thomas was 98 years young. He was the loving husband of his late wife Mary (Bucci) Beattie. After moving to Meriden, CT and marrying, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp. He earned his pilots license and served his country. A few years later he joined the reserves and served in an Army of Occupation(Germany). After the war he spent years refining his trade as a Bricklayer & Stone Mason. Thomas and Mary made Meriden, CT their home until his retirement. He built several of his own homes and traveled country both during and after his time in the Service. He is survived by his daughter Katherine Hazlett of Coventry, RI, his granddaughter Chrystal Sturdahl and her husband Jeremy Sturdahl of Charlotte, NC and his granddaughter Rachael Hazlett of Charlotte, NC. He was proud of his great grandchildren Cameron, Caitrin and Dagnie Sturdahl of Charlotte, NC and Ariana Harritos of West Warwick, RI. He was our pillar of strength and he will be missed more than we can express.

A brief Memorial wake will be held at Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington St. Coventry, RI on January 22, 2018 from 10:00 am to12:00 pm noon. Interment at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm.
