William R. Sweet, Sr., 93, of Fairview Avenue, Coventry, RI, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Coventry, RI. Born in Providence, RI, he was the husband of the late Violet A. (Gingras) Sweet and the son of the late William and Addie (Cooke) Sweet.
William was gas plant operator for US Navy Civil Service, Quonset Point, North Kingstown, RI, for nineteen years until retiring in 1973. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII and was a member of Stillwater Baptist Church, Hope, RI.
He is survived by a son; William R. Sweet, Jr., a daughter: Rita Archambault , six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter; Bonnie Assalone, two brothers; Warren E. Sweet and Willard A. Sweet and two sisters; Addie Sweet and Grace Sweet.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00am at the RI Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
