Aras Lester “Al” Johnson, 89, of Black Rock Road, Coventry, RI, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Elmhurst Rehabilitation Center, Providence, RI. Born July 27,1933 in Lone Pine, LA, he was the son of Ewell and Stella (Johnson) Johnson. He attended and graduated from school in Louisiana.
Aras enlisted in the US Air Force on July 31, 1951. He served overseas in Korea, Japan, Spain, Lybia and Germany retiring on August 1, 1971. After retirement he worked as a carpenter and millwright. Aras was a life member of the American Legion Post 136, Stockholm, ME, and the VFW Post 9389, Caribou, ME. He was also a member of the Carpenter Local 1996, Augusta, ME and an active member of the Warwick Church of Christ, Warwick, RI.
He was married to the late Edith (Brouillard) Johnson September 4, 1999, who passed away on December 23, 2014. He was also married earlier to the late Rose (Peters) Johnson of Stockholm, ME. She passed away on February 28, 1992.
Aras is survived by three children; Thomas Peters, Marleen Perron and Mona Theriault, two sisters; Faye Shulla and Earlene Clark, eleven grandchildren; Mark Levesque, Kim Field, Dennis Levesque, Jennifer Peters, Lisa Currie, Carmen Peters Robillard, Thomas Peters Jr., William Perron, Heather Dow, Rick Theriault, Scott Theriault, Kristi Theriault, sixteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and a companion; Judith McElveen. He was predeceased by a daughter; Joyce Levesque, two brothers; William Johnson and Denton Johnson and a grandson; Scott Perron.
A committal service followed by US Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 10:00 am at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
