Bernice E. (Zegarzewski) McElroy

Bernice E. McElroy, 89, of Quaker Lane, East Greenwich, RI, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich, RI. Born on July 14, 1931 in Richmond, RI, she was the wife of the late Edward J. McElroy Jr. and the daughter of the late Chester and Lena (Fortune) Zegarzewski.

Bernice was a CLA for the Ladd Center, Exeter, RI for thirty years before retiring in 2000. She also worked for various RI Group Homes during that time. Bernice enjoyed cooking, sewing and was very devoted to her family.

Bernice is survived by two children; Robin Leite and her husband Joseph and Edward J. “Jay” McElroy III and his partner Lisa, four grandchildren; Joseph Ross Leite, Ashley Leite, Chad McElroy and Zack McElroy and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Frances Godin.

Bernice’s services will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
