Bertha H. Hawkins, 96, of Old Plainfield Pike, Foster, RI, passed away home surrounded by her family on July 31, 2020. Born on September 28, 1923 in Cranston, RI she was the wife of the late John Hawkins and the daughter of the late George H. and Hazel (Donaghey) Bowen.
Bertha was employed at Centreville Bank in Artic, RI, for many years, Cranston Print Works for seventeen years and later was the owner of Whippoorwill Camp Ground for forty years before retiring in 2005. She was proud of being the highest honor student for her graduating class at Knotty Oak High School, class of 1942. She enjoyed crochet, quilting and gardening.
Bertha is survived by two children; John F. Hawkins and Joyce Prew-Trivett, five grandchildren; Craig, Wayne, Bruce, Dawn and Michelle, nine great grandchildren, seven great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother; Edward H. Bowen and a sister; Ruth Fredette.
Bertha’s services will be private.
