Betty Thayer Obituary

Betty J “Bean” (Capwell) Thayer, 78, of Exeter passed away peacefully at home with her precious family by her side on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Born in West Greenwich to the late Arthur Brayman and Thelma Capwell. She married the love of her life and best friend George R Thayer on September 22, 1963, resided in Exeter where they raised their two sons, Ricky and David (and guess where they came up with those names? Yes, Ricky and David Nelson.) Betty worked various jobs throughout the years, but the most precious and dearest to her was being a wife and being a mother to her two sons. She loved being with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. Her most favorite breakfast was a cup of tea and donut/toast where George had it waiting for her at the table when she woke. She loved going to the Elks on a Saturday night to listen to the RI Rednecks, a good old yard sale, auction and of course anything free on the side of the road. She would say to George stop and you know it, he rolled his eyes up at the ceiling of the car and probably thought to himself here we go again! But of course, he wasn’t going to get by without stopping and if he did, he would pay for it! If she saw that you were disposing of your junk but her treasure and once again, what are you doing with that? And for sure it would hitch a ride home with her and once again George thinking not again! And you know it, rolling his eyes, nodding his head knowing not to get caught. She leaves behind her beloved husband George of 61 years, beloved sons, Ricky and wife, Tina of Florida, David and wife, Denise of Exeter, beloved grandchildren, Ricky Jr and wife, Maegan, Corey, Catherine and companion, Collin, Makayla. Beloved great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Lily, Connor, Colin, Justine, Holden, siblings, Alice Morgan and Lloyd Capwell and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Predeceased by her siblings, Louise Zampini, Patricia “Patti” Capwell, Gloria Waterman, Beverly Brennan, Robert Capwell, John “Johnny” Capwell, Arthur “Sonny” Brayman. She will forever be in our hearts and known as Bean, Ma, Mimi, Grammy Bean! We would like to thank the staff of Palliative Care and Beacon Hospice of North Kingstown for the care, compassion and kindness you have shown to Betty and her loved ones. Especially, Alexis, Tiffany, Lee and Tara for providing her with the dignity and respect that we all hope to have at the end of life. Also, thank you Alexis from Palliative for gaining her trust and making her confident with her decisions, just for being her friend. Thank you for being part of her journey.

A Memorial will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 3pm at the home of her son David 107 Black Plain RD Exeter, RI. Friends and Family Welcome. Please bring any pictures and memories/stories you have of Betty.
