Carol M. (Stock) Matheu

Carol M. Matheu, 89, of Hope Furnace Road, Scituate, RI, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at home. Born on April 24, 1934, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Russell Sr. and Alice (Pickett) Stock.

Carol was a homemaker to her loving family. Carol grew up around Olneyville, RI, when Atlantic mills was a big department store, she would ice skate down at Marina Park just a different time. Her dad was a cabbie and a football player for Olneyville when they wore leather helmets, her mom worked hard at the forgery making high quality sss silverware. She was a true Rhode Islander, and she loved Aunt Carrie’s and dipping her clam cakes in tha chowda. She had a heart bigger than MT Everest and a kind, gentle soul, and she would always tell ya straight up how it’s gonna go. You always hear moms talking about their kids, not so much kids talking about their moms. My mom was a great mom, she gave me all the love, kindness laughter and strength. Love you forever, Craig. 

Carol loved life, she always told me, her daughter, how much she loved her children, would do anything for us and anyone, I bought her a sandwich she wanted me to have a bite of it and I told her no mom I have my own. She was so sweet and giving. She was the best mom a daughter could ask for. I will forever miss her my heart is broken into pieces I will never be the same. Carol is survived by three sons; Gilbert Matheu, Craig Matheu, Russell F. Stock, a daughter; Colleen Matheu, a sister; Kathy Pellegrino, five grandchildren Max, Katie, Justin, Joshua, Dylan and three great-grandchildren Jacob, Jax and Ryder. She was predeceased by a brother; Russell Stock Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held prior from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Burial will be private.
