Charles R. “Charlie” Brown, 95, formerly of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, and Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 7, 2026. Born in Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Charles A. Brown and Ethel M. (Weeks) Brown.
Charlie was the devoted husband of the late Jean (Swan) Brown and was later married to the late Mary (Bradner‑Bush) Brown. He is survived by his loving children: James Brown and his wife Linda, Scott Brown and his wife Sharon, and Susan Fatticci and her husband Brent, along with their families. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia (Brown) Brown of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his siblings Ethel (Burdick) Fournier, Kenneth Burdick, Janice (Brown) Sandford, and his brother James Brown.
Charlie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep sense of responsibility, love for animals, and the principles that guided him throughout his life. His curiosity, practical knowledge, and natural intellect were hallmarks of a long and successful career with the George A. Goulston Company, where he worked first in Scituate, Massachusetts, and later in Monroe, North Carolina.
Charlie cared deeply about the people and communities around him. He was a proud 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Manchester Lodge No. 12, embodying the Masonic values of integrity, service, and brotherhood. His willingness to help neighbors, friends, and anyone in need was a defining part of who he was.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) in the Gorton–Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. An hour of visitation will be held prior, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Cemetery, North Kingstown, RI.
