“How I wish, How I wish you were here”
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here
David M. Calcagni, 68, of Fairway Drive, Coventry, RI, joined by loved ones on Monday, September 16, 2024, Dave went gently into his final good night. To say he raged against the dying of the light would be a gross understatement. He died as he lived and loved, madly. Born on September 13, 1956, in Milford, MA, he was one of five children. He was the son of the late Charles W. and Bernice H. (Biersdof) Calcagni. His father later remarried Anna (Cabrita) Calcagni, who would become an amazing stepmother and grandmother to their large family. The husband of Karen A. Keenan. They were married for twenty-eight years.
Dave always had at least two full time jobs. One of his favorites was being a CRCST in Central Sterile at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI for thirty years. He worked most of that time on 3rd shift and was affectionately known as “Night Man”. Dave also managed Jarman Shoes in Rhode Island Mall until it closed, and even worked a bit at Landmark among other places throughout his life. Though he worked so much and so hard the jobs did not define him as a man. Dave was a beautifully complex man that brought laughter, spontaneity, chaos, amazing music, disturbing movies, exaggerated stories, jokes, and comments to this world that should never reach print. Most of all he loved and cared in his own unique way, within the time he had available to give. He will be missed by his friends and family for all his strengths and his beautiful flaws, not only because it is what made him Dave but because he deserves what he gave, unconditional love.
Dave was predeceased by siblings: Paul Calcagni, Allen Calcagni, Elizabeth (Calcagni) D’Agostino. Besides his wife Karen Calcagni, David is survived by five children; Joshua D. Calcagni, Jessica R. Estey, Jaclyn C. Calcagni, Chelsea L. Daniels and Regina (Grace) Klinner, a brother; Charles W. Calcagni II, step siblings Debra (Mann) Engle, Michael Mann, Harold Mann, and Joseph Mann and nine grandchildren; Gabriel C. Calcagni, Ethan R. Calcagni, Owen M. Calcagni, Ian E. Calcagni, Evan J. Estey, Colin P. Estey, Aiden J. Estey, Luna R. Daniels and Luke X. Daniels.
David’s services will be as unique and private as he was.
