Dennis Crowley, Sr. Obituary

Dennis D. Crowley Sr., 80, of Janet Drive, Cranston, RI, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Born on July 31, 1945, in Providence, he was the beloved husband of Grace (Gillis) Crowley. Together they shared sixty years of marriage. He was the son of the late Dennis E. and Evelyn (Gleason) Crowley.

A dedicated public servant, he proudly served with the Providence Fire Department for 28 years after joining in 1968, rising through the ranks before retiring as Superintendent of Automotive Maintenance in 1996. He was a member of the Providence Permanent Firemens Relief Association and the Providence Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He also served as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces.  Dennis cherished time spent with his family, was an avid New England sports fan—especially the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. He could usually be found watching his beloved teams with a large bowl of ice cream.

In addition to his wife Grace, he is survived by his children: Karen Medeiros (Gil), Grace Perry (Charles), Tracy Crowley, Colleen Crowley, and Elizabeth Valerien (Brent); his siblings: Margaret Almeida (Ronald), Thomas Crowley, PFD Retired (Margaret), Daniel Crowley, PFD Retired (Rosemarie); and his brother‑in‑law, Steven Vallone Sr.   He leaves behind his grandchildren:  Emily Medeiros, Sarah Perry, Jonathan Perry, Matthew Crowley (WWFD) (Jessica), Megan Crowley, Colby DeCastro, Jack Valerien, Ryan Valerien, and Paige Valerien, a great-granddaughter Georgia Crowley, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Dennis D. Crowley Jr., and his sister, Annette Vallone.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10:00 am from the Gorton – Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in the SS. John & Paul Church, 301 South Main Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich, RI. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU) at Rhode Island Hospital, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903 or the Providence Permanent Firemens Relief Association, 90 Printery Street, Floor 2, Providence, RI 02904.
