Elmer C. Bentley, Jr.

Elmer C. Bentley Jr., 79, of Congdon Street, Coventry, Rhode Island, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence. Born on December 26, 1946, in West Warwick, he was the devoted husband of the late Janet (Gauthier) Bentley and the son of the late Elmer Bentley Sr. and Nora (Kennedy) Bentley.

Mr. Bentley dedicated forty‑five years to his profession as a security officer. He served with distinction at Ace Detective for twenty years. Prior to that, he was employed at Foxwoods Resort Casino for twenty years and at Security RI in North Providence for five years. He was a past master of the Masonic Ionic Lodge No. 28 in Greene, Rhode Island and a past Dad Advisor of Byron Northrup Order of DeMolay. In his youth, he greatly enjoyed the sport of golf and was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Kate Bentley; his brothers, John Bentley and James Bentley (Joanne); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister in law Judy Bentley.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10:00 am in the Gorton–Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry. Burial will follow with United States Military Honors will take place at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island. Calling hours will be observed on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
