Evelyn L. (Mowry) Santos, age 90½, of Mulhearn Drive in Coventry, Rhode Island, peacefully passed into the Kingdom of Heaven on June 13, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late David Santos and the devoted daughter of the late Leon and Eveline (Boucher) Mowry of Smithfield, RI.
Fondly known as Ev, she was deeply proud of her heritage as a member of the historic Mowry family, whose roots trace back to the founding of Rhode Island. A direct descendant of Roger Mowry, who joined Roger Williams in establishing the colony in 1636, she carried forward a legacy of strength and resilience. Roger Mowry also built and operated the first tavern in the state—an enduring piece of Rhode Island history known as the Roger Mowry Tavern.
Throughout her life, Evelyn poured her heart into caring for others. She dedicated many years as a caregiver and housekeeper for the elderly, showing compassion and devotion in everything she did. A passionate traveler, she found great joy in exploring both the country and the world, following in the adventurous footsteps of her cherished Aunt Doris.
Above all, Evelyn treasured her family. She leaves behind her loving son, Kenneth Aker and his wife Paula; her adored granddaughter, Danielle Parenteau and her husband Sean; and her beloved great-grandson, Parker Parenteau. She is also survived by her younger brother, Roger Mowry. She was predeceased by her siblings: Clinton, Donald, and Richard Mowry, and her sister, Nancy (Mowry) Gronski.
Private services will be held in Evelyn’s honor. Online condolences may be shared at www.gortonmenardfuneralhome.com.
