Frances (Roussot) Shippee

Frances Shippee, 89, of Foster, RI, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Hope Health Hospice Care, Providence, RI. Frances was the widow of George Shippee who passed away in 2000. She was also the widow of Norman Metcalf Jr. who passed away in 1972. Born in France on September 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Henri and Madeleine (Cosyns) Roussot.

Frances arrived in the United States in 1951 and except for living in New Hampshire for nine years (1963 to 1972) she always resided in Rhode Island.

Frances leaves many close friends, and many cousins residing in France.

After completing a course of study at Johnson & Wales, Providence, RI, Frances started working as an executive secretary for Affiliated FM Insurance Company in 1955, which became part of FM Global. She then moved to New Hampshire with her husband and worked for Vermont Bank & Trust Company until 1972 when her first husband passed away. She then returned to Rhode Island to reside with her mother and went to work for Hospital Trust Bank. She married George Shippee in 1977. Frances retired in 1989 from Hospital Trust Investors, a division of Hospital Trust Bank, to care for her mother.

She supported several charitable organizations and loved animals. She was a member of Moosup Valley Congregational Church, Foster, RI, where she also served as a Deacon.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Gorton – Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. A calling hour will be held prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will take place in the Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown, RI.
