Herbert F. Smith

Herbert F. Smith of Coventry RI, age 82, sadly passed on November 15, 2020. Predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy F. (Andrews) Smith. Survived by daughters Mary Ann Young and Dawn Cote both of Coventry, RI, son Russell Smith of Scituate, RI ; grandchildren: Chelsea Accetta, Lee Cote, Danielle Studley, Jarred Young, Riley Benedict-Smith and Brady Benedict-Smith, and five great grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss him.

Herb lived a fulfilling life. He owned and operated Valley Auto Top in Coventry, RI for many years. After retiring, he and his wife Sally, who predeceased him in 2010, spent part of the year in Port St Lucie, Florida and later lived there full time for six years enjoying games of cribbage and collecting sea glass. In his later years, Herb enjoyed going on Sunday drives in his Mercedes convertible to visit his family, rooting for the Boston Red Sox, and reading. Herb always enjoyed a good joke, like leading his grandchildren to believe an alligator lived in his barn.

Services will be kept private and for immediate family only. Those wishing to honor his life can make a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
