James A. Rathbun

James A. Rathbun Jr., 71, of Coventry, RI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Born on December 26, 1953, in Warwick, RI, he was the beloved son of the late James A. Rathbun Sr. and Dorothy (LaPointe) Rathbun.

James worked as a dedicated mechanic for Moore’s Garage in Coventry for 33 years and later served the Town of West Warwick for a decade before retiring in 2022. Known for his strong work ethic and loyal spirit, he was deeply committed to his family and community.

He found joy in simple pleasures—fishing on quiet afternoons, spending time with his loved ones, and visiting Foxwoods Casino for a bit of excitement. His warmth and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

James is survived by his daughter, Jamie L. Rathbun; his sister, Karen Paul; and grandchildren, Parker Jaynes and Paxton Jaynes. He was predeceased by his daughter Justine and his brother Arthur A. Rathbun.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gorton – Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
