John H. Capwell Jr., 50, of Cedar Grove Drive, Exeter, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Warwick on July 6, 1975, he was the devoted companion of Jeannie Mathewson, with whom he shared 34 years. He was the beloved son of Ronda (Mullins) Capwell and the late John H. Capwell Sr.
Mr. Capwell was employed as a treeācutting professional for eleven years with Kaiser Tree Preservation. Prior to that, he worked with Verrier Tree Service. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his craft, and willingness to assist others whenever needed. John cherished time spent with his family, loved his dogs, enjoyed dining out, and found great pleasure in visiting Seekonk Speedway.
In addition to his companion Jeannie and his mother Ronda, he is survived by his children, Joshua Capwell (Melia) and Jacob Capwell (Harmony); his siblings, Crystal Wall (Rob) and John Lawrence (Christine); as well as many nieces and nephews and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by his son, John H. Capwell III.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Gorton–Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, Rhode Island. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Hasbro Tomorrow Fund or the Make A Wish Foundation.
