Maritza V. (Alonzo) Guillen

Maritza V. Guillen, 80, of Ada Court, Coventry, RI, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Hope Health of RI, Providence, RI. Born on January 11, 1943, in La Ceiba, Honduras, she was the wife of Jorge A. Guillen. They were happily married for thirty-eight years. She was the daughter of the late Luis Alonzo and Petronila Escobar.

Maritza was a special education teacher’s aide for twenty years at Coventry High School, Coventry, RI before retiring in 2008. She had a special gift for working with children with special needs and touched the lives of many.

Besides her husband Jorge Guillen, Maritza is survived by three children; Karen Firestone, Darren Soens, and Jorge D. Guillen, and five grandchildren; Alexander Firestone, Aidan Firestone, Samantha Firestone, Jeremy Soens, and Nila Soens.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 11:00 am in the St. Bartholomew Church, 297 Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence, RI. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, 70 Church Street, West Warwick, RI.
