Marshall B. “Bruce” Mann, 77, of Idlewild Court, Coventry, RI, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born on January 18, 1947, in Chicago, IL. He was the husband of Doreen M. (Giles) Mann. They were married for fifty years. He was the son of the late Stuart and Delores (Dutton) Mann.
Bruce was a customer service representative for Foxwoods Casino, Ledyard, CT, for nine years before retiring in 2015.
Bruce was a true pioneer in the soccer programs in Rhode Island, serving in many capacities which included coaching, league president, and referee coordinator for Coventry Soccer. More than that, over his decades long career in the sport, he trained and mentored thousands of soccer officials from youth to the college level and beyond. He officiated soccer at the highest national and collegiate levels. He was instrumental in developing multiple programs that enhanced the soccer experience for players, officials, and spectators. He was a State Youth Administrator, State Direction of Instruction, and State Director of Assessment. He was president of numerous soccer programs, including high school, college and semiprofessional. Besides his many leadership positions, Bruce is remembered as a person who had a direct impact on so many people. Some of those whom he mentored would come back years later and thank him, not just for helping them in their career in soccer but making them a better person overall. Because of his storied soccer career, he was inducted into the New England Soccer Hall of fame, The RIGSO Hall of fame and the Soccer RI hall of Fame.
Besides his wife Doreen, Bruce is survived by a son Corey Mann and his wife Vanessa, a daughter; Nicole Parrillo and her husband Eric Parrillo, eight grandchildren; Elliot Mann, Malcom Mann, Calvin Mann, Perrin Mann, Brooke Farrar, Halie Farrar, Lora Farrar and Amelia Parrillo and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister; Marcia Robbins.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Gorton – Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
