Mary Soucie Obituary

Mary E. Soucie, 96, of Ledge Road, Dayville, CT, and formerly of Cole Avenue, Clayville, RI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Evergreen Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Stafford Springs, CT.

She was born on June 12, 1929, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Levesque) Albert, and grew up to become the kind of woman people remembered long after they'd left her kitchen.

For 33 years, Mary managed the deli department at Almacs Supermarket, retiring in 1992 as a proud member of Local 328 Food Workers Union. She brought the same steadiness to that work that she brought to everything: she showed up, she did it well, and she made sure the people around her were taken care of. She was known for her generosity, her quiet competence, and a willingness to help that never seemed to run dry.

At home, Mary's hands were always busy. She cooked, knitted, and sewed quilts for the people she loved, each one a small act of devotion created from scraps of fabric collected with intention. Her family was the center of her world, and she tended that center with everything she had.

And she sang. Those who knew Mary will remember that. Even in her final years, when dementia had taken so much, the music remained. When she could no longer recognize the faces of the people she loved or care for herself, she was still singing. It was, perhaps, the truest thing about her, the part of Mary that stayed.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul A. Soucie, and is survived by her children Donald Soucie, Valerie Rudolph, and Christine King; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who carry pieces of her forward. She was predeceased by her children Donna Peffer and Paul Soucie, and by her siblings Maurice Albert, Edgar Albert, Donald Albert, Gilbert Albert, Clifford Albert, Stella Albert, Hubert Albert, Peter Albert, Beatrice Levasseur, and Kathleen Rogalio.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
