Richard O. Fraenkel, 96, of Washington Street, Coventry, RI, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at The Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, RI. Born on July 23, 1923 in New York, NY, he was the husband of Lauretta (Goodwin) Harvey. They were married for forty-seven years. He was the son of the late Jerome and Olga (Levy) Fraenkel.
Richard was an artist who earned his B.A at the University of Chicago and his B.F.A and M.F.A. at the University of Southern California. Richard was a Professor of Art who taught at the University of RI until his retirement in 1991. He was also a Professor of Art at several other universities before coming to URI. Richard and Lauretta spent many years travelling to the south of France where he enjoyed painting.
Richard was a WWII veteran who served honorably in the United States Army in the European Theater from 1942 until 1945.
Besides his wife he is survived by his six children; Megan Jacoby and husband Keith of Arizona, Constance Shane and Charles Duck, Lauren Russell and husband Ken Quain, and Susan Reed of California, Louise Richmond and husband Joel and Debra Harvey Means of RI, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of both RI Hospital and the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center for the outstanding care given to Richard and the kindness extended to his family.
His services will be private.
