Richard Keener Sr., 93, of Pond View Drive, Coventry, RI, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Born on August 9, 1928 in Coventry, RI, he was the husband of the late Dorothy (Hopkins) and the son of the late Oswald and Irmgard (Feige) Keener.
Richard was a carpenter for Winters Distributing, Taunton, MA, for thirty-three years before retiring in 1993. Richard was a US Army Veteran, 82 Airborne, serving in WWII. He received the WWII Victory Medal.
Richard is survived by two sons; Richard Keener Jr., Kevin Keener, three daughters; Linda DePalma, Sandra Smith and Joyce Breton, thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a great great grandchild; Gavin Griswold. He was predeceased by a brother; Fred Keener and two sisters; Marion Johnson and Mildred Keener.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Burial with US Military Honors will be held in the Rathbun Cemetery, Coventry, RI.
