Robert J. Andrews, 87, of Bailey Pond Road, West Greenwich, RI, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Kent Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on September 18, 1938, in Coventry, RI, he was the husband of the late Patricia (Drew) Andrews and the son of the late John Titus and Mildred (Olney) Andrews.
Robert proudly served the Town of West Greenwich as a police officer for twenty‑six years, many of those years as Chief of Police. Following his retirement from the department, he continued his commitment to the community by serving several terms on the Town Council. Earlier in life, he enjoyed working alongside his father as a carpenter, building homes throughout the area. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Vietnam Era.
He was a member of the South County Rod and Gun Club, the West Greenwich community, and the National Rifle Association. Robert loved spending time with his family, gardening, hunting, and fishing both in Rhode Island and at his camp in Maine. Being outdoors brought him great joy.
He is survived by his son, Michael Andrews (Danielle); grandchildren Jason Sprague, John Salisbury Jr., Ryan Andrews, and Eric Andrews; and great‑grandchildren Jason Sprague Jr., Yvonne Sprague, Jaxon Sprague, Vincenzo Giusti‑Salisbury, Elliana Giusti‑Salisbury, Gialaina Giusti‑Salisbury, and Selena Giusti‑Salisbury. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Yvonne Salisbury, and his siblings, June Dion and Kenneth Andrews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Gorton–Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
