Ruth Mann Obituary

Ruth C. Mann, 84, of Sweet Briar Road, East Providence, RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Born on April 20, 1941, in Newport News, VA, Ruth was the beloved youngest daughter of the late Roy C. and Valora (Sarton) Mann.

A gifted musician descended from gifted musicians, Ruth found joy in playing the accordion, piano, guitar, and harmonica, and was known for her love of singing especially at her local jazz nights. A foodie of the highest order, Ruth sampled any and every kind of cuisine voraciously. She was a spirited fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Notre Dame football, cheering on her teams with passionate enthusiasm. Cheer, in a word would most accurately describe what Ruth embodied. In any room that Ruth occupied her voice was the loudest and her joy was the most infectious. Every moment of her well-lived life was shared among anyone who she celebrated it with. Above all she loved her family, friends and two dogs, Lena and Lily.

Professionally, she dedicated 35 years of service to Verizon Communications as a regional supervisor in coin collection, a position that brought her pride and afforded her extensive travel.

Ruth is survived by her nieces Patti (Childs) Cremmen, Karen (Childs) Therrien with their respective partners Stephen Forman and Jay Johnson, her great niece Raina Madison and great Nephew Tanner Therrien as well as cherished friends Margaret Lucas and Linda Vincent. She was predeceased by her sister, Mabel G. Childs and her partner of over thirty years, Carol Borges.

A celebration of life to honor Ruth’s memory and the joy she brought to those around her will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Marascos, 1458 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI. Burial will be private. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.gortonmenardfuneralhome.com
