Shirley I. Capwell

Shirley I. Capwell, 86, of West Warwick, RI, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Brentwood by the Bay in Warwick, RI. Born on April 1, 1939, in West Warwick, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Julia (Lawrence) Capwell.

Shirley dedicated her career to education, shaping young minds as an elementary teacher at Maise Quinn Elementary School in West Warwick for many years before retiring in 1998. She found joy in visiting family, reading, and actively participating in her church community.

She is lovingly remembered by her nieces, Pamela S. Kowalik (Stephen), Jennifer L. Moretti (Mark), Stacey DeGenova (David), and her nephew Matthew Capwell. Shirley also leaves behind her cherished great-nieces: Stephanie Venditti, Kristin McQuiggan, Abigail Owen, Lauren Moretti, Katelyn Moretti, Sophia DeGenova, and Julia DeGenova. She was predeceased by her younger siblings, Lawrence Capwell and Barbara Hopkins.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Gorton–Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
