Shirley D. Long

Shirley D. Long, 74, of Beverly Ann Drive, Hopkington, RI, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at South County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Kingstown, RI. Born on October 4, 1950, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Cecil C. and Filomena (Gentile) Long.

Shirley was the Director of Public Libraries for the Town of South Kingstown for 12 years before retiring in 2016, and previously worked for The Providence Public Library for 29 years in various positions, most in Adult Services.

Shirley is survived by three siblings; Richard Long and his wife Ellen, Celia Miller and her husband Glenn, and Phyllis Smiley and her husband Alan and five nieces and nephews; Jameson Long, Jenna Reale and her husband Matt, Jesse Long, Alan Smiley Jr. and Catherine Smiley, great nephew Kaleb Reale and great niece Elliana Reale.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:30 am in the Gorton – Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. A visitation will be held prior from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be private for immediate family only in the St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich, RI.
