Thad E. Carman Jr., 69, of New London Turnpike, Coventry, RI, passed away at home on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Born on June 4, 1955, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Thad Sr. and Esther (Jones) Carman.
Thad lived a full and varied life, with a strong commitment to both his country and his passions. His long career of ten years as a truck driver with Swift Trucking, Arizona, likely gave him the opportunity to see many parts of the country, while his service in the US Marine Corps during Desert Storm, along with his time stationed in Okinawa, Japan, adds a layer of depth to his experiences. It’s also impressive that he reached the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and had such a strong connection to his military service, especially after retiring from Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA.
His hobbies—cooking, gardening, computer repairs, and movie collecting—paint a picture of someone who appreciated both creativity and practicality. He greatly enjoyed repairing computers and working in his garden, and he had a keen interest in storytelling and entertainment, as evidenced by his large collection of movies.
Thad is survived by a son; Thad Carman III and his wife Julie Spatcher, a daughter; Samantha Boudreau and her husband Michael, a sister; Wanda Carman, six grandchildren; Michael Boudreau Jr., Sophia Boudreau, Grace Boudreau, Anthony Boudreau, Luke Boudreau and Calvin Carman and his former wife; Trudy Carman. He was predeceased by a sister; Linda Culligan and a brother; Marvin Carman.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Ayden Cemetery, Ayden, N.C.
