Theresa D. LaBonte, 88, of West Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Alpine Nursing Home. Born June 26, 1937, in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the beloved wife of the late Roland LaBonte and the daughter of the late Joao Jose and Maria (Inacio) Verdadeiro.
Theresa worked as a self‑employed Portuguese / English interpreter for forty years before retiring. Deeply connected to her heritage, she was active in local Portuguese events and became a well‑known and respected figure in the community. She founded and operated Camp Sunshine in West Warwick, creating a place of joy and support for countless families. Above all, she cherished time spent with her loved ones.
She is survived by her children Pat Reed (Jim), Norman LaBonte (Donna), and James LaBonte (Elaine); her brother John Verdadeiro; her sister Stella Peizarek; her grandchildren Matthew LaBonte, Kyle LaBonte, Rachel Bickers, and Aaron Reed; four great‑grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Ronald “Ronnie” LaBonte and her sister Mary Ventura.
