Willis L. Dorothy, Sr., 85, of Victory Highway, Coventry, RI, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at home. Born in Rehoboth, MA, he was the husband of the late Shirley L. (Dexter) Dorothy and the son of the late James and Ruth (Caldwell) Dorothy.
Willis was a coordinator in production and management at Kaman Aerospace Corporation in Mooseup, CT, for thirty-seven years until retiring in 1994. He was also the owner and operator of of RI Go-Kart Track and an auto mechanic.
He was a volunteer deputy for the Coventry Police Department, a member of the Go-Kart Association of America, a professional flag man for the Go-Kart Association, and an avid golfer and bowler. He spent twelve years on family research in England and Nova Scotia.
Willis is survived by five children; Frank E. Dorothy and his wife Donna, David L. Dorothy and his wife Denise, Willis L. Dorothy, Jr. and his wife Sandra, Kimberly A. Tourtellot and her husband Glenn and Nancy L. Cafaro and her husband Steven, Sr., twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter; Joyce Dorothy, a brother; Edward “Bud” Dorothy and three sisters; Laura Durfee, Elsie Reynolds and Carol Matthews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2107 at 11:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be prior from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Phillips Memorial Cemetery, Foster, RI.
