I first met Mary when I moved next door to her in 1964. I was five and she was nine. Although she was a few years older than me she didn’t mind me tagging along behind her which was fine by me because I thought Mary was the greatest.

We spent a lot of time together, me and Mar (as I called her) from coloring in the backyard, making pumpkin seeds in the easy bake oven, aimlessly walking around the streets of West Warwick, our first bottle of booze, riding around Oakland Beach in Mary’s Javelin or my green station wagon with the bullet holes to sharing an apartment together.

I had to move away in 1979 and apart from a few visits and a few letters in the early 1980’s we lost contact.

Mary and I reconnected in 2014 and I was able to spend some time with her along with having many phone conversations for which I am extremely thankful.

Mar and I have so many memories and so many good times it just doesn’t seem right that I’m the only one to remember them now. I can’t call her anymore and say “hey, remember when we did this and remember when we did that?” My friend is gone and that makes me terribly sad. I feel like a part of me has died.

Rest in Peace Mary Lou. You are forever in my heart just as you always were.

My deepest sympathies to Mary’s family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the family find some comfort from Gods Word where it promises that soon death and pain will be no more and that we will see our loved ones again by means of a resurrection here on earth (Revelation 21:4, Acts 24:15). I hope the memories of Mary and these promises can help bring comfort in the days ahead. My condolences to the family during this difficult time.
