Derek A. Swinburne

Derek A. Swinburne, 45, of Springfield, MA, passed away on January 2, 2017 in Stafford CT. Born in Warwick, RI he was the husband of Katie A. (Berger) Swinburne. They were married for six years. He was the son of Patricia M. (Teller) and Alfred E. “Al” Wood.

Derek was a student at Word of Life Bible Institute. He was deeply devoted to his Savior Jesus Christ and offered ministry to the homeless people. He was a member of Mensa. Derek wrote a poem which was published. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

Besides his wife and parents he is survived by two sons; Derek A. Swinburne, II, and Reed W. Swinburne, three brothers; Al E. Wood, Dale W. Swinburne, Jr. and Greg A. Landers, a sister; Leah M. Volatile, several loving nieces and nephews and Dale W. Swinburne, Sr.

A funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Christian Hill Community Church, 56 Tiogue Avenue, West Warwick, RI. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm from the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Burial will be private.
